Scarlett & Bell is a team of caffeinated romantics run by
Mercedes Somerville
Scorpio, addicted to design details, and in eternal search of whether pasta or bread is the ultimate carb.
When she started Scarlett & Bell, her goal was to create the perfect fusion of impeccable organization and empathy.
Because great wedding planning requires both.
Full planning is our specialty.
Let’s begin with organization. You will be armed with our budget tracker that would impress even the most meticulous accountants, and a checklist that covers everything from vibrant encouragement of drinking champagne at every opportunity after your engagement, to booking in that final haircut, barber-visit, or facials appointment.
From now until your wedding day, every month will be filled with tasks we’ll tick off one by one, ensuring you never worry about missing a single detail.
Your wedding morning is a fleeting and precious time meant for you to spend with loved ones—whether that’s your friends, your mom, your sweet grandma, your not-so-sweet-but-still-invited grandma, or cherished moments with your soon-to-be spouse.
Handling logistics? That’s our job.
We swoop in to manage everything seamlessly. But organization alone isn’t enough if your event doesn’t reflect who you are.
We want to know you, hear your stories, and understand your dreams, hopes, and even wedding-day fears. We put in the effort because we truly care.
We are impeccable because we chose this path with passion and purpose, we did not stumble into it.
We want to be your champions, your voice, your alchemists. More than anything, we aim to be your Franck. (While watching Father of the Bride isn’t mandatory, it’s highly recommended for wedding inspiration).
You deserve the most luxurious gift: time. Time to relax, enjoy the process, and revel in the wonder of your wedding day. We’d love to give you that gift.
Our wedding was beautiful and we, along with all our guests, had such a great time. I truly think these ladies have chosen the best career ever for their skill sets - their organization and warmth is unparalleled. I highly recommend the entire team at S&B.

About Scarlett & Bell

Edinburgh, the most glorious of cities!
-
Ohhhh back in the day (2012) one of my very best friends got married and that got the ball rolling. We had been making Pinterest pages of weddings for as long as Pinterest existed, so I helped her plan her wedding. She moved with her new husband to Texas where she trained with a fabulous planning company in Houston, and on return gave me (Mercedes) the excuse to leave my masters degree and set up shop together. Shortly after, Scarlett (my middle name) & Bell (Agnes’s maiden name) was born, and a few years later I took over solo. I now have a small team of planners, welcoming Agnes back as the Senior Wedding Planner, and a killer team of assistants, and a growing black book of the best suppliers in Scotland.

It depends slightly on the size of your wedding and your requirements, but on average our couples book 12-18 months out. I wouldn’t recommend much more than 2 years, or less than 9 months.
-
Most of the team work on 10-15* weddings in a year, with clients booking generally from 1-3 years in advance. It depends what time of the year you ask, but on average we’ll be working on 15-20 at any one time. These weddings will all be at different stages requiring different levels of attention and communication. That is why we work on a collaborative timeline and checklist. Mercedes is now only working on 5-8 weddings at a time, so she can focus on building the business and supporting her most excellent team members.

We have suppliers we love and trust, of all different styles and specialities. We are also constantly researching and taking recommendations from fellow suppliers. So no, you do not have to work with anyone we put forward and if there are suppliers you find independently we am delighted to add them to my recommendations!
However, we will look into every supplier we work with to make sure they are going to provide you with the best service and to check they are reliable.

Getting to know our clients, and then seeing their wedding unfold. We often work with my couples for years and we get to know each other very well, those relationships are something we invest in professionally and personally.
It’s because of those relationships that we are able to tap into what our clients love and will mean most to them on their wedding day. It helps us prioritise certain areas, and guide them through the traditions to include or skip, and where to spend their money or where to save. On the wedding day there is little we won’t do for our clients to make sure their day is as perfect as possible.

Services
-
A wedding planner is involved in the entire planning process from start to finish, while a day-of coordinator steps in closer to the wedding date to help manage the final details and ensure the day runs smoothly.
Our final weeks service is the closest we offer to “day-of coordination”. It starts around 10-12 weeks out at which point we are much more hands on that a typical coordination service. We help make sure every area and details is covered and considered. We identify any gaps and make suggestions for what to do or things to change that might make the day that bit better. As soon as possible we take over communication from each vendor with the aim of letting you step back entirely in the home stretch.
-
Your level of involvement is entirely up to you. We can handle everything from start to finish, or you can be as hands-on as you like. However, we do love the weddings we work on to be true to the couple, so the more the planning process is fully collaborative, the better.
-
Absolutely! In fact, it’s our speciality. About 80% of our couples are destination clients based all over, from the US, Australia, UAE, and mainland Europe. Wedding planning is hard enough without having oceans and time zones in your way, this is a relationship we know and love.
-
A basic outline looks something like an initial consultation, proposal and contract/invoice issuing, ongoing communication, timeline creation, vendor selection and management, design and decor planning, and day-of event management.
Our proposal will lay out our phase-based planning approach which will provide you with much more information!
-
Before we arrive on site in the morning, your hair and makeup artist will likely set up and start with the bride and bridesmaids. Your lead wedding planner will do a walk through when they arrive, to get situated and check on what is to be set up and identify any potential set-up issues.
The rest of your suppliers will start arriving from 10am, your wedding planner will greet them and help them in any way they can. Throughout the day we will go between you and the suppliers, making sure everyone has what they needs and making sure you are having the best time.
We’ll work from our timeline, as will your suppliers, and make adjustments throughout the day to allow for those little things that inevitably happen. We know you, and we know you’re priorities, so you won’t be bothered with those decisions unless necessary. We’ll be everywhere at once, while blending into the background.
After 10:30pm, or once the last event had been coordinated, we will do a final check to make sure you are having the most wonderful day and head on our way.
-
Not everyone has a 6-figure budget for their wedding, and nor should they. We all have our own priorities. This is why we have carefully designed the S&B: Simplified services so we can help couples with all budgets. We want to bring our knowledge and expertise to everyone who would like the help.
We will help you set a realistic budget, educate you on where to spend and where to save, and how to manage the logistics without getting overwhelmed.
-
For some of our full-planning clients we will take meetings or visit venues on their behalf, though travel costs may be charged depending on the location.
-
We love to. So far we have learnt about Nigerian ceremonies, Hindu traditions, Chinese Tea Ceremonies, and Jewish weddings. We relish the opportunity to learn about cultures and help you integrate them into your day in a way that is true to you and respectful to your family and beliefs.

We do. The minimum fee for Full Service Planning is £6,000, and for Final Weeks is £1,800.

Our starting price for Final Weeks is £1,800 which will cover the coordination of one day (opposed to the wedding and a rehearsal dinner or welcome event) in, or within 40 minutes of Edinburgh.
-
We take various factors into account when building out your proposal and the fee we will charge. Our minimum fee is £6,000, with the average couple spending in the range of £8,500-£10,000. Preferred location, number of guests, number of events, style of wedding and the taste of the couple are all taken into account when pricing our service.
-
Because we work on average a 14-hour day, any wedding that takes place 2 hours or more from Edinburgh we charge a fee to supplement travel and accommodation costs, or alternatively the client can provide this. This will be addressed in your wedding planning proposal.
-
Your fee will be charged in 4 equal instalments from the time of booking until around 1 month prior to the wedding. You will be invoiced once the proposal is accepted and you will receive the due dates for each payment within that document.
